REHABILITATION
Hydrotherapy at BARC
Hydrotherapy with the underwater treadmill is a wonderful addition to the rehabilitation plan for many pets. Our extra large treadmill is more comfortable for pets to enter and can be tilted to increase the challenge when needed. Walking in warm water has multiple benefits for recovery from surgery and injury. Water at different heights will create individual levels of bouyancy allowing early safe use of an injured or arthritic limb while increasing joint range of motion. The drag of walking through water increases muscle strength, stamina and coordination. Compression from water helps swelling and comfort while the heated water improves flexibility.
Hydrotherapy is a proven aide for recovery after surgery for such conditions as TPLO, patella luxation, FHO, IVDD. It is also ideal for senior pets with stiffness and weakness for mental stimulation, muscle conditioning, stamina, balance improvements and weight loss in a safe, controlled environment.
